Drupalchix
The Drupal community can boast of many awesome women in its ranks. In spite of the welcoming environment, super-cool contributions, and generosity of the broader community, however, "many" still makes up a very small percentage of the overall community (exact number uncertain, but somewhere around 14-20%). Even more notable, however, is that only a small percentage of those women actively participate in the meet-ups, camps, code-sprints and other Drupal activities. So, the big question is: how do we change that? The DrupalChix track aims to tackle this question as best we can. We hope you’ll join us! :) h3. Our goals: h4. Goal #1 WOMEN PROPOSING SESSIONS WHAT: Encourage awesome Drupachix to propose great sessions that everyone, regardless of gender, will want to see. As a result, hopefully women who haven’t made themselves known yet will take advantage of those sessions and ultimately become known to the community. HOW YOU CAN HELP: Are you a woman with great module that you can present? Or who has built a really interesting site? Or who has a great take on project management for Drupal sites? Submit a session proposal! h4. Goal #2: SHOW JUST HOW EASY ENTRY REALLY IS WHAT: One of the Install Fests will be lead by Drupalchix. Keep your eye out for this one on the schedule. No matter what your skill level, we can help you get Drupal installed on your computer so that you have the tools you need to start building sites with Drupal. HOW YOU CAN HELP: Want to help with the Install Fest? h4. Goal #3: NETWORKING WHAT: When looking at the drupalchix group discussions, or talking with women using Drupal about what would be most useful to them, it becomes clear that there are two core themes: 1. We’d like to get to know each other, and, by extension, we’d like to know more about what Drupalchix are doing in the community. 2. We’d like more access to networking, both to encourage each other and prospective Drupalchix, to mentor or learn from each other, and work with each other. To address these, we’re creating a "Networking FAQ" on this very site (to be available closer to camp). We’re also working on putting together a BoF (birds of a feather) luncheon, and we’ll have a table during the camp where women can come to reach out, ask questions, and network. HOW YOU CAN HELP: We’ll definitely need Drupalchix to take shifts at the table throughout the camp, so please volunteer! No specific skill level needed – anyone can contribute in this area! Additionally, if you have great leads to add to the Networking FAQ, please send them our way. Finally, it would be fantastic if someone wanted to sponsor the luncheon! If you might be interested in doing so, please contact us! Check back as we get closer to camp, as there’ll be more specifics available.
